Detailed Product Description
UPVC Pipes
Introduction to UPVC
In 1920, after so many researches it was found that Polyvinyl Chloride in its
unplasticised form can be easily moulded robust and durable products. The first
product was made in Germany and those laid in Berlin are still in use today. After
its introduction in Australia in 1960s the use of UPVC (Unplasticised polyvinyl
chloride) pipe had grown rapidly. Today more UPVC water (pressure applications),
sewer and drainage pipe is being installed than any other materials.
PropertiesUPVC pipes will not adversely affect other materials in contact or in close proximity
to them, underground or in open space. Because of non-conducting properties, UPVC
pipe systems are not subject to electrolytic corrosion when in contact with metals.
It is thus a good insulator and also non magnetizing. Transportation of UPVC pipes is much easier and will easily withstand normal conditions found in urban and rural areas. One very good advantage is that UPVC can be reclaimed from salvaged materials,
cleaned and graded into specific types, dependent on designation and made or reprocessed into new products.
1. UPVC Pressure Pipes (AS/NZS 1477)
Pipe compatible with AS/NZS 1477 (Australia/ Standard New Zealand Standard 1477)
have been manufactured in Australia for over 30 years. These pressure pipes are
applicable to be used below ground or above ground. The Pipe color is white.
a)Raw Materials
The material with which Pressure pipes are made consists of polyvinyl chloride (PVC)
to which suitable additives are added to give the best product.
b) Working Pressure
The maximum pressure that can be sustained by the type and class of pipe for its estimated useful life under the expected working conditions.UPVC pressure pipes are classified by their design to resist internal pressure in accordance to the Australian standard.
Pipe is classified by nominal pressure as follows:
PN 9 (Class 9) for a nominal working pressure of 0.9 MPa ( 9 bar) at 20 ?C
PN12 (Class 12) for a nominal working pressure of 1.2 MPa (12 bar) at 20C
PN15 (Class 15) for a nominal working pressure of 1.5 MPa (15 bar) at 20?C
c) Testing
The aim of any quality check is to make sure that the product is made correct the
first time. The standard following which the pipe is made gives out set out testing requirements that will ensure the pipe quality.
General tests
General tests such as marking on pipes, colour, and freedom from defects are
carried out at regular intervals as the pipes are manufactured.
Dimensions Test
Outside diameter, wall thickness, end square ness, Socket dimensions for both
solvent Cement Joint (SCJ) and RRJ (rubber ring joint) are carried out on hourly
basis as per standard requirement to conform product standard. All dimensions
are measured following the methods described in AS/NZS 1462.1
Specification: Conform to all dimensions as per standard requirement.
Reversion testDetects the presence of excess surface strain or very low level of gelation in the formulation which would affect the long term properties of pipe. Low reversion value indicates less surface strain. . The test is carried out following the method described
in AS/NZS 1462.4)
Specification: < 5%
Impact Test
Impact test measures the function of material in the product, of the quality of
extrusion and the dimensions of test specimen. The strength is measured by
means of multiple impacts by weights as specified appropriate by the standard.
Specification: Pass
High Temperature Test
This particular test indicates the presence of volatiles and gas bubbles resulting from thermal disposition. It also measures the gelation level in extruded PVC pipes.
Reverse bend test indicates the presence of spider line fusion defects.
Specification: Pass
Short Term Hydrostatic Pressure Test (1 Hr)
Measure of how well the pipe wall can withstand the hoop stress caused by internal hydrostatic. The test is carried out following the test method described in
AS/NZS 1462.6).
Specification: No defects (rupture) within 1 hrs time.
Methylene Chloride Test (Internal Test)
This test also detects the presence of excess surface strain or very low level of
gelation in the formulation which would affect the long term properties of pipe.
Specification: Pass
2. UPVC DWV Pipes & Sewer Pipes (AS/NZS 1260) Non pressure pipe
DWV pipes made to Australia / NewZealand Standard AS/NZS 1260 are for drain,
waste and vent applications above ground or below ground and intended to be used
where the pipe line is operating under gravity flow and the operating pressure is low.
The Pipe color is grey
3.UPVC Electrical Conduits (AS/NZS 2053)
Electrical conduits made to Australia/ New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 2053 are for
the protection of cables and electrical installations. UPVC orange and grey conduits
are designed for buried and above ground installations. Both of these conduits of
sizes defined are available. Heavy duty conduits which are orange in color are for
buried conditions Medium duty conduits which are grey are for above ground
installations. All conduits are stored in well protected area from sunlight. This
protects the deterioration of conduits color.
4. UPVC Telecom Ducts.
Telecom ducts are manufactured as per requirement of Telecom Fiji. These UPVC
telecom ducts are used for running in telecom insulation wires. It can be used either
for buried conditions or for above ground installations. It is in Black or green colour.
5.UPVC Down Pipes
UPVC down pipes are for down draining of rain water from the gutter fitted at the
roof edge. The down pipes manufactured are both plain end and socket end and
are manufactured in only one distinctive size of 80 mm.
